Luxury Hotel in the Roero Hills: Castello di Guarene in Piedmont, Italy
What a wealthy nobleman built in the eighteenth century from an existing Medieval castle for seven centuries still stands with its original splendor on top of the hills of Roero while it dominates the town of Guarene. The castle went through a redesigning and rebuilding by Count Carlo Giacinto Roero di Guarene who was an important aristocratic figure in Piedmont and also an amateur architect.

The palace is a majestic three-storey building and surrounded by elegant Italian-style gardens. From its high position, it stands impressively as it commands a spectacular view of the chain of Langhe hills immersed with vineyards, villages, towers and castles which was recently recognized as a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
Different generations and branches of the Piedmontese aristocratic Roero family resided in the palace. In 2011, Castello di Guarene went through a new ownership and by 2015, after going through extensive works and refurbishing, it was converted into a five-star Relais & Chateaux member luxurious hotel.
Entering through the massive wooden door, the atmosphere of the Medieval period seems like it never ceased inside the castle. The high ceilings and thick walls made of bricks, chandeliers and authentic collections of art pieces and tapestries take you back to a different epoch where modern luxury comfort has touched.
The hotel has twelve rooms, four of which are located on the ground floor while the remaining eight which are more spacious, are located on the third floor. The rooms are decorated with entirely in rich period-style aristocratic furnishings with massive marble bathrooms and equipped with modern technology. There are six kinds of bedrooms all with the views of the hills from different angles, the 40 square meter Classic Rooms, the 60 square meter Castle Rooms with a private terrace, the 60 square meter room Castle Deluxe Rooms, the 80 square meter Castle Suites, the 90 square meter Castle Luxury Rooms, and the 200 square meter Castle Luxury Suite with antique Chinese tapestries.
In the castle, there is a fine dining restaurant where the Piedmontese gastronomic tradition is revisited in the creative kitchen where local ingredients are used. Being in an important wine region, the cellar boasts of the entire range of Piedmont's finest collections of wine, including rare vintages.
In addition, a cave-like spa is also highlighted as one of the hotel's amenities where a sauna, cold room, pool, Turkish bath and Jacuzzi are offered for the guests' use throughout the day.
