A View For Two at Ego Bistrot in Rome, Italy
The latest vogue in the Roman dining scene is elevating to a higher point in enjoying the capital's famous panoramic skyline. What is Rome from a towering perspective where terracotta tiled roofs, church domes and the maze of cobblestone streets are seen from a bird's eye view? Whichever part of the city you are, it never disappoints.
Let me take you this time to Ego Bistrot, one of the city's rising restaurants in a quiet corner of Trastevere. Being an extremely vibrant and lively part of the capital, it's not easy to find a hushed part in this neighborhood. The restaurant is situated on the rooftop terrace of the historic 17th-century Residenza di Doria Pamphilj at Borgo Ripa which is attached to the famous internal garden called Giardino delle Delizie.
Ego Bistrot was created by business partners Marcello Frascella and Mauro Salucci in a conducive location for appreciating the beauty of Rome at 360 degrees. The restaurant is encapsuled in big windows overlooking the Aventine Hill while the terrace dominates the terracotta tiled rooftops of Trastevere. Indoors, the restaurant can accommodate 20 while another 20 can stay comfortably outside, right on the terrace, even in winter.
It's a perfect place to sip a cocktail observing a veritable open-air museum that has more than two thousand years of history while the sun sets and closes the curtains to the darkness of the night. Dinners are even better as Chef Andrea Quaranta, with the aid of his team, execute his specialties in the open kitchen.
To complete the restaurant's team, his counterpart in the dining area is Daniele Cecchi, an expert in the drink sector. Fifty wine labels, an interesting selection of his interpretations of some popular cocktail drinks, and quality-forward liquors, complete the drink list of Daniele after gathering years of experience in the world of mixology.
Ego Bistrot is open daily (except Sundays) for aperitif and dinner starting from 19:00 until 24:00. The menu, which is seasonal, holds proposals for seafood, meat and vegetables. Oysters are available between €4 to €6, while a selection of cooked and raw appetizers are priced between €16 to €23, with the Plateau Royale, a complete selection of raw seafood at €40. The first courses of risotto and pasta are between €16 to €24 while the main courses are mostly €25 each. Desserts are between €6 for the seasonal sorbet to more complex compositions at €9. Two tasting menus are available: Roman Tasting at €40 for 5 courses and the Ego Tasting at €60 for 7 courses.
Don't miss ta couple of his exceptional dishes, the Rabbit Terrine with Porcini Mushrooms and Olives (€16) and the Roasted Scallops with Pappa al Pomodoro, Cucumber Kimchi and Black Garlic (€25).
