Hilton Rome EUR La Lama: Fuksas Modern Architecture
The newest addition of the Hilton hotels in Rome is La Lama or the blade in English which opened in February 2023. Its name is derived from its shape. Its odd dimension of 60 meters high, 130 meters long and 16 meters wide does remind you of a thin blade. The peculiarity of the external structure is quite unique, standing out high in the sky, which is an architectural mastery created by the Italian architectural firm Fuksas, known for some of the world's most technically daring and outstanding glass and steel structures like the next door Rome Convention Center La Nuvola (the cloud). These two structures are actually connected with an underground passageway.
Upon entry to the hotel, a fascinating contemporary environment envelopes the guests with the unique elements. Eye catching details of one of a kind custom-made pieces like the bronze stele of Italian sculptor Arnaldo Pomodoro at the entrance lobby. The obelisk extends upwards which guides the gaze into the great void of absolute effect, up to the 16th floor. At the reception desk covering the whole wall is the large monumental mosaic created by Marilù Rebecchini, which celebrates the most identifying views and monuments of the city of Rome. The bronze works of Osanna Visconti di Modrone decorate the lounge from the screens that filter the entrance to the lounge bar, to the imposing work on the wall of the long bar counter, up to the bronze table in the library. Whereas the interior details with evident references to the art deco design of the 30s and 40s are designed by the Lorenzo Bellini Atelier Studio.
The charm of the structure can be admired from a different perspective by going up to the upper floors above, through one of the six panoramic lifts, which open onto the balconies with windows to admire the hall from above. In total, there are 439 rooms distributed in 16 floors, 2 restaurants (one on the ground floor and one on the top floor), 2 bars, a fitness room and 7 meeting rooms.
The hotel is profoundly contemporary from the structure, to the avant-garde aesthetic details, up to the innovative technological systems. But no matter how steely modern it is, the core still skirts their main dedication to sincere hospitality. It's a journey sprinkled with beauty through art, design, technology and hospitality.
La Lama features state-of-the-art systems aimed at energy saving and attention to the environment in line with Travel with Purpose, Hilton's Environmental, Social and Governance (ESG) strategy to drive responsible travel and tourism globally.
