Maio Restaurant on Top of Rinascente Features Excellent Italian Cuisine with the Skyline of Rome
Between shopping for famous luxury brands, an incredible view of the Roman skyline and the discovery of Italian flavors made by an important Italian chef and his brigade - there's a new place in the heart of Rome that fulfills all of these in one roof! Maio Restaurant & Rooftop on the 6th and 7th floors of Rinascente department store in Via del Tritone is open from 10 in the morning until dinner time for different gastronomic experiences throughout the day.
Located on the last two floors of the luxury department, the two-storey terrace is one of the most beautiful spots in Rome where you can admire the capital's panorama with its particular rooftops and domes while having breakfast, lunch, snacks, aperitif or dinner.
The contemporary space is designed by Architect Giorgia Longoni who successfully enhanced all the spaces of the two levels of terraces starting with the bar made of Verde Alpi marble at the entrance which has a welcoming impact without obscuring the view of the 6th floor terrace. This leads to the covered 6th floor terrace with warmly colored wood, antique mirrors, carpets and amplified with shades of green and plants that warm up the ambience.
The staircase in front of the bar counter leads to the 7th floor where the bright terrace under the sky of Rome is characterized by the typical travertine, as a tribute to the city, and a 7-metre long bench as well as brass accents to embellish the elements. Here, on the 7th floor, you can find Rendez-vous, the champagnerie and oyster bar by Moët & Chandon, the terrace above the terrace under the Roman sky where you can have a selection of raw meats and more combined with the tasting experience of the champagne of iconic French maison Moët & Chandon.
Umberto Vezzoli, a chef who has more than 20 years of experience among some of the best hotels and restaurants in the world such as Starwood Hotels and St Regis Hotels & Resorts, specializes in refined Asian and Italian cuisines. At Maio, he creates a menu that features fresh and seasonal dishes for all tastes and preferences, with a tribute to Roman cuisine together with the classic dishes of the Maio kitchen.
For breakfast, sweet or savory options are available from continental to croissants and the iconic Roman maritozzi filled with different fillings. As for the meals, there are very interesting Appetizers (€16 to €20) like the red tuna tataki with celery, baby plum tomatoes and oyster sauce; or the Vitello Tonnato which are thinly-sliced roast veal with tuna sauce and caviar. For the the First Dishes of pasta and risotto (€16 to €20), there is also a good selection like the chef's Milano Tokyo 1988 risotto with pistils of saffron and red tuna tartare which should be tried: or a traditional Amatriciana mezze maniche pasta with tomato sauce and crispy guanciale. The Main Courses (€14 to €32), some of the options are the Milanese breaded veal cutlet with roasted potatoes and tomato concassé or perhaps a vegetarian miso marinated roasted aubergine with caviar and tahini. Then end the meal with a selection of delicious Desserts (€8 to €12) like the lemon curd tartlet with Italian meringue or the tiramisú with espresso mousse. For simpler dishes, there is also a selection of salads, sandwiches, pizzas and sweets that are added to the proposals on the menu.
A well-selected wine list accompanies the dishes at Maio Restaurant. It features a number of well-known labels from all over the world as well as emerging ones, and with particular attention to the excellence of the Italian labels ranging from small to big producers.
Its Milan counterpart, opened in 2007, is set on another spectacular setting in the city with a privileged view of the steeples of the Duomo also on the 7th floor of the Rinascente department store. The two restaurants are the result of the entrepreneurial journey of brothers Alessandro and Massiom Maio who hail from Piedmont. The Maio group includes Be-Steak, both in Rinascente Milano Duomo and Milano Rho Fiera, where the grilling of fine meats is the specialty. It also includes Maio Catering, which transfers the culture of haute cuisine to the organization of made-to-measure catering where quality and decades of experience guarantee its success.
