Vinea Lucens, The Nighttime Immersive Show in the Roman Vineyards of Parvus Ager Wine Estate Begins

The summer season of 2023 brought great success to Vinea Lucens in the vineyards of Parvus Ager, leading to its highly anticipated return for the summer of 2024. From now until October 13, visitors to the Parvus Ager estate, located along the historic Appia Antica, can partake in an extraordinary event that seamlessly merges the world of wine with immersive, revolutionary shows. Vinea Lucens is more than just a show. It’s a journey through time, tradition, and taste. By combining the ancient art of winemaking with cutting-edge immersive technology, this event offers a unique opportunity to experience the Appia Antica in a way that is both innovative and deeply rooted in history.

Vinea Lucens is an enchanting journey that starts at sunset, taking visitors on an 18-stop tour through the vineyards. This immersive journey intertwines Roman and Italic legends with the heartfelt stories of a family who has passionately cultivated vines for over a century. The show uses captivating light and shadow displays to transport visitors into a new dimension, creating a magical atmosphere that blurs the lines between reality and fantasy.

Vinea Lucens is hosted within the Appia Antica Archaeological Park and supported by the Parco Regionale dell'Appia Antica and the Municipality of Marino. This groundbreaking event is a collaboration between Orpheo and Parvus Ager, with additional partnership from Stazione Mole. Together, they have crafted a one-of-a-kind visual and auditory experience that brings to life the rich history and legends of the region.

Accompanied by an audio narrative in both Italian and English, the experience delves into peasant traditions and ancient legends passed down through generations. This storytelling aspect adds depth and context to the visual spectacle, enriching the understanding of the region’s heritage.

The tour culminates with a tasting of Parvus Ager’s finest wines, offering a sensory conclusion to a unique journey through the vineyards and on the Appia Antica or Appian Way. It is one of Rome's oldest roads paved with cobblestones in 312 B.C. that served as a crucial access route into the city. This tasting session allows guests to savor the flavors that have been crafted with the same passion and dedication that infuse the stories and legends they have just experienced. This picturesque location is just a few kilometers from the center of Rome, right in the heart of the Parco Regionale dell'Appia Antica.

The show involves a 2-kilometer walk through the vineyard, lasting approximately one hour. As visitors traverse this scenic path, they will be guided by strategically placed lights that lead them through rows of vines, past olive trees and kiwi plants. Vinea Lucens runs from Friday to Sunday, starting after dark. This timing ensures that the play of light and shadow is at its most dramatic and enchanting, enhancing the immersive experience. To complete the experience, traditional regional dishes at the Stazione Mole Restaurant of Parvus Ager will feature special menus dedicated to the event.

Parvus Ager

Since 1980, Parvus Ager has stood as a symbol of the rich viticultural heritage of Rome, blending tradition with innovation. Located in the heart of the historic Parco Regionale dell'Appia Antica, this family wine estate has cultivated vines on land that has been nurtured since the era of Ancient Rome. Parvus Ager, a Latin term meaning small field, is a story of a family's dedication from their 2-hectare land to 54 hectares, in embracing the territory's viticultural tradition and equipping themselves with technologically advanced cellar, designed to extend the wine potential of Lazio region.

The new generation behind Parvus Ager, led by siblings Alessia, Silvana and Giacomo Lulli, grew up immersed in the vineyard’s life, learning from their grandfather, Silvano, the revered family patriarch. Their childhood memories are filled with the melodies of grape-picking women, the rhythmic sounds of presses in the cellar, and the pungent aroma of fermenting must. Inspired by these experiences and the invaluable lessons from their grandfather, they embarked on the ambitious Parvus Ager project. This project saw the complete overhaul of existing vineyards, introducing high-quality noble vines and employing state-of-the-art technologies to ensure the grapes’ organoleptic properties are preserved and enhanced during winemaking.

The unique volcanic soil of the Appia Antica, rich in minerals like potassium, phosphorus, sulfur, and magnesium, imparts a distinct balance and depth of flavor to Parvus Ager’s wines. The soil, composed of basalts, tuffs, and pumices, benefits from the sea winds, which further enrich the wines with persistent and intense aromas. This combination results in wines that are a true reflection of their terroir, offering a sensory experience that is both rich and complex.
