Lux Wine: Explore, Taste, and Learn the World of Fine Wines in Rome
As British comedian and writer Stephen Fry once said, “Wine can be a better teacher than ink.” This statement reflects the idea that wine offers lessons beyond the written word, providing experiences that stimulate the senses and immerse people in history, culture, and tradition. This philosophy is at the heart of Lux Wine, a unique wine shop in northern Rome. Here, wine is not just something to drink, it's a story to be discovered. Lux Wine goes beyond the sale of fine bottles. It offers a rich exploration of the world of wine through tastings, workshops, and events, creating a space where knowledge, culture, and enjoyment are intertwined.
About Lux Wine
Located in the Pandora Commercial Park on Via Cassia in Rome, Lux Wine is more than just a traditional wine shop. Offering a curated selection of 900 labels from Italy and around the world, it provides a space where wine is experienced, not just bought. The shop features a 14-meter oak bottle rack, carefully climate-controlled to ensure the perfect preservation of each bottle, and is designed to foster social interaction. With a large communal table that seats up to 35 people, a panoramic terrace, and private parking, Lux Wine creates an inviting and interactive environment where guests can explore the stories behind each bottle and immerse themselves in the rich world of wine.
Mattia Favazza
Lux Wine is led by Mattia Favazza, a passionate wine expert with years of experience in the industry. His journey began with a deep curiosity about wine that led him to become a Bibenda Wine Master and manage several Signorvino stores in Rome. For Mattia, wine is not just a beverage but a reflection of culture, territory, and discovery. His hands-on approach involves traveling across Italy, speaking with winemakers, producers, and agronomists to uncover the stories behind each bottle. Mattia shares these stories with customers, making every wine selection a personal journey that he embarks on together with them. He is joined by partners Flavio and Alessandro Moretti, Diego Favazza, and Daniele Ussia, all of whom have long-standing roots in beverage distribution.

Events and Activities
At the core of Lux Wine are its rich and diverse events, offering much more than simple tastings, but rather a full exploration of the wine world. October featured an exciting lineup, including "Viaggio tra Terra e Mare" (Journey Between Land and Sea), Gin Night, "L’Eleganza del Pinot Nero", and a special event focused on big red Italian iconic grape varieties, showcasing Nebbiolo, Aglianico, and Nerello Mascalese.
I had the pleasure of attending the St. Michael-Eppan tasting on October 22nd, which provided an elegant deep dive into the refined wines of Alto Adige. A surprise blind tasting of the 2009 Pinot Bianco added a fun element to the evening, engaging guests in lively discussion. Additionally, tasting the 2006 Pinot Bianco alongside the 2022 vintage gave us a deeper understanding of the impressive age-worthiness of their white wines, showcasing how well these wines develop over time. This thoughtful comparison offered both education and enjoyment, rounding off the night with a memorable experience.
November offers another impressive lineup. The month kicks off every 20:30 on November 8th with "L'Altra Toscana," showcasing lesser-known wines from Tuscany. On November 22nd, the focus shifts to "Grandi Vini Bianchi tra Friuli e Alto Adige," highlighting the best white wines from these northern regions. November wraps up with "I Vini Dolci" on November 29th, a sweet indulgence featuring Italy’s finest dessert wines.
These events are made even more special through collaborations with culinary experts, adding a layer of gastronomic excellence to the wine experience. Andrea Roscioli, famous for his Esquilino Bakery, and Francesco Loreti, owner of Formaggeria Roma, bring their culinary expertise to the table, pairing fine wines with perfectly matched foods. Additionally, the award-winning Bevande Limori beverages enhance each tasting, making Lux Wine’s events not just about wine but about an all-encompassing sensory experience.
Wine Course Series Every Tuesday
In addition to its impressive lineup of events, Lux Wine offers an educational Wine Course Series every Tuesday evening from October 29th to December 3rd, 2024, running from 19:00 to 21:00.
